    THECOOPPROCESS
    TheCooperativeEducationSeminar–288providesyoutheopportunitytolearnandpracticejob searchskillspriortocoopandgraduation.Theseskillscanbeusedthroughoutyourcareerand willhelpyoudefineanddirectyoureffortsinachievingyourcareergoals.Inthisseminaryouwill preparearésumé,researchprospectivecooperativeeducationemployers,interview,anddevelop ajobacceptancestrategythatwillallowyoutoeffectivelyevaluateoffers.Theknowledge,skills, andexperienceyougainfromthisseminarwillbecomethefoundationofchoosingacooperative educationpositionthatbestfitsyourneedsandaspirations.Thesameknowledge,skills, experience,andcompetencieswillalsoallowyoutosuccessfullymanageyourcareerupon graduation. AllstudentspursuingaBachelorofScienceorMasterofEngineeringdegreearerequiredtocoop forthreealternatingsemesterswiththeexceptionofthosewhoqualifyforadvancedstandingor internationalstudentswithstudentvisas.Studentsmustbeadmittedtotheirmajordepartment beforetheyareeligibleforcoop.StudentsarerequiredtotaketheCoopSeminar–288priorto securingacoopposition.Theseminarisdesignedtoassiststudentsinthejobsearchprocess includingrésumépreparation,interviewingskills,writingacoopreportandprofessionalethicsand jobsuccess. Studentsarerequiredtocooponanalternatingsequence.Studentsworkfulltimepaid positions,withthesameemployerforthese3alternatingsemesters.Acoopreportand employerevaluationmustbesubmittedaftereachcoopsemestertoearnacademiccredit. Studentsearn2credithoursforeachcompletedcoopterm. DuringtheCoopSeminarstudentswillworkwiththeircoopcoordinatortopreparearésumé whichwillbeemailedtoemployersseekingcoopstudents.Employersscreenrésumésandselect candidatestointerview,andinterviewswillbearrangedthroughthecoopoffice.Interviewsmay takeplaceoncampusoratthecompanylocation. Coopstudentsarenotguaranteedaposition. Thecoopcoordinatorrefersstudents'résumés foremploymentopportunitiesbasedoncompanyneeds.Whetherornotastudentgetsajobis determinedbytheirqualifications,thejobinterview,theirabilitytocompetewithotherstudents, andeconomicconditions. Studentsareencouragedtosecuretheirownworkassignmentsaslongasthisisdiscussedwith thecoopcoordinator. Itisimperativethatstudentsstayinclosecontactwiththeircoopcoordinatorthroughoutthecoop process.Communicationregardingjobinterviews,joboffers,andacademicconcernsisessential tothestudentobtainingacoopposition.
