First Aid for Burns

Teaching objectives:
1,Improve knowledge about first aid for burns.
2,Enhance skimming and scanning skills by reading text.
3,Enable students to acquire main idea of text by reading subtitle.
Types of lesson:
Comprehensive reading
Teaching materials:
Book 5 and additional pictures
Teaching key points and difficult points:
1,Learn to distinguish there degree burns and how to perform them properly.
2,Retell the story according to subtitle and information listed in the text.
Teaching methods:
1,Question and answer activity.
2,Individual,pair work and group work.
3,Brainstorm
Teaching procedure and time allotment:
StageⅠ Greeting: (about 1 mins)
Eg: Good morning! Boys and girls.
StageⅡ Warming-up: (3mins or so)
Look at the title——first aid for burns and have a brainstorm about students' own experiences with pictures in the warming-up.
Stage Ⅲ Reading
1. Ask students to skim Para 1 and attempt to find out how skin is formed and what function it is. (3 mins or so)
Skin:
Three layers of skin
Complex functions:
(1) Keep warm or cool
(2) Prevent your body from losing water
(3) Give you sense of touch
2. If you get burned, first aid is extremely necessary. Then can you
find out the causes of burns Students are required to list them. (About 2 mins)
Causes of burns:
(1) Hot liquid
(2) Steam
(3) Fire
(4) Radiation
