Focus Today 'Chinese Fever' Across the Pacific
中国网络电视台消息(1月19日焦点访谈):前不久,历史博物馆前树立起了孔子塑像,而作为中国传统文化的代表,孔子的形象在大洋彼岸的美国,也正在被越来越多的人所熟知.如今,在美国已经开设了70多家孔子学院,人们在那里更多地了解了中国.近日,中央电视台记者到芝加哥的一所孔子学院进行了采访.
CNTV reports (January 19th, Focus Today): Not long ago, a Confucius Status was erected in front of History Museum. As a representative of traditional Chinese culture, the Confucius figure is now being known to a growing number of people across the Pacific as well. So far, there have been more than 70 Confucius Institutes established in the U.S., which provided a chance for Americans to get a better understanding of China. Lately, a correspondent from CCTV conducted an interview in a Confucius Institute in Chicago.

走进美国芝加哥佩顿中学的教学楼,左手第一间教室便是孔子学院.这所芝加哥孔子学院成立于2006年5月10日,是芝加哥公立学校系统,中国国家对外汉语教学领导小组办公室以及上海华东师范大学合作建立的.它负责芝加哥公立学校系统中43所学校的中文项目,近12,000名学生的协调工作.
Entering U.S. Walter Payton College Preparatory High School's teaching building, we can see the Confucius Institute the first classroom on our left. This Confucius Institute in Chicago was jointly established by the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), China National Office for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language and East China Normal University on May 10th, 2006. It is in charge of the Chinese Language Program in 43 schools of CPS, involving nearly 12,000 students.
采访时记者了解到,在汉语课堂上,有几个孩子曾经通过中美文化交流项目来过中国.他们印象中的中国文化很有意思,中国城市很现代化.
During the interview, the correspondent found out that at the Chinese language class there are a few children who have visited China through a Sino-American cultural exchange program before. They said China impressed them with its interesting culture and very modernized cities.
当然,大部分在孔子学院学习汉语的美国孩子是没有去过中国的,他们非常渴望到中国参观,旅游,渴望了解中国,通过在汉语课堂上的学习,他们不仅可以学习汉语,还可以了解到中国文化.
Of course, the majority of the American children here studying Chinese at the Confucius Institute did not have a chance to visit China before, however, all of them are very eager to visit and travel in China. They are very eager to know about China. Their study at the Confucius Classroom, not only provided them a chance to learn Chinese language, but also allowed for them to learn about Chinese culture.
